For Those About To Golf

Do you practice your golf swing during conference calls? Do you think visors look cool (they don’t)? Is plaid your new black? Have you used your umbrella to putt a rock? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then you’re in need of a golfing intervention. Kayak has just the vacation for you.

Need a little sun and sea on your golfing vacation? Pebble Beach, California boasts two award-winning courses and several sightings of a golf-loving Dirty Harry. Cypress Point has forest-lined hills racing all the way to the Pacific. Cliffs and strategically placed holes make this course a challenge for pros and novices alike. Blame your low score on the dramatic views of the coast (or the Bloody Marys before tee off). Also try the Pebble Beach Course and The Links at Spanish Bay. After you leave the bar, head out to dinner at one of the resort area’s many fab restaurants to recharge for the next round. We recommend Stillwater Bar & Grill, Roys or Peppoli. Visit Casa Palmero, located along the first and second fairways of Pebble Beach Golf Links, for a massage to work out your newly aching muscles. Prices are steep, so just put it on the Underhill’s account.

Williamsburg flights | hotels | cars
If you want to get away for a golf weekend but the spouse won’t let you abandon the family, then take everyone to the emerging golf destination of Williamsburg, Virginia. While your significant other and the kids explore the rich colonial history of Williamsburg or the thrill of Busch Gardens, you can spend your days on some of the most beautiful championship golf courses on the East Coast. We recommend the Gold Course at The Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, any of the courses at the Kingsmill Resort or Williamsburg National Course which requires you to wear a powdered wig on the last hole. The mild, coastal Virginia climate allows golfing most of the year. When you’re finished lugging around your golf clubs, get a bite at King’s Arms Tavern or The Cheese Shop. Spend the night at the Haunted Dinner Theater. Maybe you’ll get chipping advice from dearly departed golfers.

Phoenix flights | hotels | cars
We’re halfway through summer but that doesn’t mean your golfing days are over. Phoenix, Arizona is your winter golf home away from home. In fact, grab the spouse because Arizona golf resorts offer something for everyone. With over 300 days of sunshine annually, everyday is the perfect day for golf, not to mention, biking, swimming, shopping and hiking. Of course, everyday is the perfect day for spas and no one has more world-class options than the Phoenix-Scottsdale area. We recommend The Boulders Resort and Golden Door Spa. Play both courses but reserve a day at the spa for the Avocado Citrus Scrub. If you’re afraid the dessert heat will be too much, check in at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa which offers air-conditioned golf carts and a covered driving range. If your honey prefers to get extra crispy by the pool with People Magazine, follow the celebrities to the Phoenician Resort. With fancy resorts, comes fine dining, so splurge on dinner at Mary Elaine’s, Wright’s at the Biltmore and Coyote Grill.

Edinburgh flights | hotels | cars
You haven’t truly golfed until you’ve put on a kilt and screamed “Fore” in the place where golf was invented. Aye, in Scotland. Head to the bonnie town of Edinburgh to play the breathtaking courses at Muirfield, Gullane, and Dalmahoy. Head west and play Prestwick, Kingsbarn and St. Andrews of course. Golfing specials run regularly but tee times go early so book in advance. Resist the urge to golf your vacation away and take in the history of this beautiful country. A castle a day will keep the bogeys away, so spend a day at Edinburgh Castle. Next, walk along the Royal Mile in Old Town Edinburgh to visit the museums, monuments and churches. Don’t forget to stop by a traditional Scottish pub for a few ales. Try the Grassmarket area and hit Maggie Dickson’s, Biddy Milligan’s, and the Last Drop. Alba Gu Brath.

    Something is wrong with the hotel search. In all the links above, you cannot put in dates in the hotel search.

    @Jesse C:

    These links show hotels without dates. If you go to the top of these results, click “modify search” and then you’ll be able to specify dates.

    Cheers.
