Revealing my true travel geekiness, I’ve been having some fun messing around with the newly-opened Gansevoort South Hotel’s reservations engine this morning. The long-awaited hotel, which opened its doors on Collins Ave. in Miami Beach last week, does the sexy cosmopolitan thing like its older NYC sister, but with a SoBe vibe. What do I mean by that? Two words: shark tank. There’s also a swanky rooftop area with an infinity pool overlooking the beach, and, of course, cool touches like black floors in the guest rooms (a perfect match for all the black turtlenecks that will no doubt descend here during Art Basel next year).

And while the hotel has rates to match its posh location, there are some decent deals to be had right now while the hotel’s in its soft opening phase (apparently, the fitness center, for example, will not be open until later this year). Through May 31, 2008, the hotel is offering an introductory package that offers a deluxe double city view room, 60-minute massage, continental breakfast and valet parking for $360/night. Regular rates are upwards of $600/night, so that’s a pretty good deal. There are currently plenty of nights in April and May available at this rate - and even some weekends.
