Luxurious Learning at Cavallo Point

Since it opened earlier this year, I’ve been keeping an eye on Cavallo Point, a new lodge built at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge across from San Francisco. Mainly, I’ve been wondering how I can justify a vacation to a place that’s just a few miles from my house.

I may have found the answer: Cavallo Point’s Adventures & Learning Vacations. The ongoing series of adventure, well-being, arts and culinary programs let guests hole up in this idyllic setting for a few days while exploring those topics with Northern California experts - among them, the art of handcrafted cheese with Cowgirl Creamery cheesemakers, animation with artist Packard Jennings, bootcamp fitness for women with Joanie Greggains and wine country cooking with Joanne Weir.

Through the end of the year, the programs come with free lodging when you and another person share a room and participate in the program together. Solo travelers will receive one night of free lodging at the inn.

Was looking for a close, convenient escape from the 7by7 concrete slab. Less than two minutes off the bridge, and we are in a national park, at a stunning lodge… seemingly in the middle of Yosemite? Turn around and remind yourself you are a stone’s throw from one of the most exciting and culturally active cities in the world. Quite a juxtaposition.

Contemporary room with a view: WOW. LEED GOLD? I think. I know it is Leed accredited. Stunning on every level.

I am a dork and liked the TV’s pleasant electronica and visualizations. Turned on the TV once, and never found a channel… just left the pleasant music and visuals on.

Most comfy bed I have slept in in years.

didn’t have a spa appointment, but toured it with a free glass of something greenish. Not sure what it was, but it was from the tea bar and it was DELICIOUS… and made me feel good afterwards. I don’t even believe in that stuff, and I could notice me feeling chipper and energized. Whatever….. but the spa is BEYOOOOTIFUL! Just stunning…. and the pool is quite lovely. No one seemed around, so it was nice to be there before it was out of control.

Murray Circle - expensive, and more than worth it. Best wine list I have seen in years. Farley Bar… same food, basically. Service was good. Best Burger I have ever had in my entire life. Says something about the place too…. it looked quite rare, but I didn’t hesitate with this kitchen. I wouldn’t have eaten it if *I* had cooked it, but the kitchen is so fantastic I didn’t doubt it. Apparently, the beef was alive about 8 hours ago anyway. WOW. The drink refills being charged is sort of silly. They took it off the bill, but 2 lemonades cost $12… be careful how fast you drink.

The brunch, I thought, was pricey at $18…. but the GORGE YOURSELF UNTIL YOU DIE LIKE YOU ARE IN SIZZLER aspect was amazing. I went back a couple times for the best fruit and granola I have ever had… chaffing dish quiche and bacon and sausages…. as well as, HANDS DOWN, the best croissants and muffins I have ever had in my life. Including France, this is the best pastry chef I have ever seen… the bread, the chocolate croissants… everything… SOLID. I think he is Ethan? Thank you Ethan.
