Couch Surfing Grows Up (Just a Little)

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Remember the couch-surfing trend? Well it’s alive and well, but slightly more civilized, thanks to Airbed & Breakfast, a new company from two San Francisco design industry dudes with a dream to house budget-minded travelers, make breakfast and drum up a few extra bucks at the same time.

Travelers can enter their destination to find locals willing to put them up for a night. Willing locals can offer up their extra rooms, set their own nightly rates and accept payment through the site.

Right now, there are listings both in the U.S. and abroad, but the lion’s share of available digs are in the San Francisco Bay Area, Denver, Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Where Hot Chicks Go in San Francisco

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Despite its name, the Hot Chick Package from the San Francisco-based Personality Hotels group does not require you to pass a hotness test or engage in a Hot or Not showdown prior to check-in. Just by booking this overnight package at one of Personality Hotels’ six properties, one apparently becomes entitled to refer to one’s self as a hot chick for the duration of the stay. Also included with the room rate, which starts at $179/night, are the following girlie perks:

- Two tank tops emblazoned with the word “Diva” in Swarovski crystals

- Four cosmos courtesy of Cocktails by Jenn

- Calling cards imprinted with the suggestive phrase “Gimme a Ring Sometime”

- A list of spray tanning, mani-pedi and waxing services in the city

- A natural remedy hangover cure kit

The package (and your accompanying hot chick status) is available through Oct. 31, 2008 at downtown San Francisco hotels, including Hotel Diva, Hotel Metropolis, Hotel Union Square (pictured), Kensington Park Hotel, The Maxwell Hotel and York Hotel.

You don’t need us to tell you that paying in dollars while staying in a European hotel translates into a good deal for U.S. travelers this summer. But you may need us to tell you where to find such a deal:
